Job Title: Small Animal Veterinary Surgeon

Region: South West

County: Devon

Profession: Veterinary Surgeon

Category: Small Animal

Position: Permanent

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: Ongoing

Job Description: An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented veterinary surgeon to join the team at a GP accredited practice at the heart of community life in idyllic Torquay.

This role is the perfect stepping stone for an experienced vet to progress into a leadership role with both Clinical Director and Ownership opportunities available, if desired.

Working alongside a multiple certificate vet with 19 years experience and another vet who has 10 years experience you will be fully supported by a team consisting of 4 RVN's, 1 SVN, 2 VCA's, a practice manager and front of house team.

This is a unique opportunity to join a locally owned practice that benefits from a real sense of camaraderie. We’re a close-knit, collaborative team with a great sense of humour and complete clinical freedom. To make the most of this role, you will therefore have experience of working in practice, and you will have good medical and surgical skills. With many of the team having been with the practice for a long time and having progressed in their careers, and a commitment to your development including being keen to support anyone interested in research, there is a lot of scope and potential in joining this practice.

Your days will be well structured with an emphasis on quality over quantity, with an average of about 12 consults per day with a reasonable procedural. As well as time to catch up on breaks and admin time being factored into the day, non-clinical colleagues also join in consults to support with some of the admin.

Ideally this is a full-time role, however our client would be happy to discuss other alternatives with you for you to achieve a good balance between home and work. They currently work 2 different shifts from either 8:30 – 16:30 or 11:00 – 19:30, with an average of 3 early shifts for every 2 late shifts and just 1 in 4 weekends, with time off in lieu for the hours worked.

Although 8am - 7pm are considered the paid work hours at the weekend, you’ll only need to be in the practice from 08:30 – 14:00 on Saturday, only coming in in addition to this if there are emergency callouts.

And while the job itself offers an exceptional level of career satisfaction; it is possibly the location of this practice that is one of the main selling points. Torquay is a scenic coastal town with a strong infrastructure. As part of the English Riviera, it has something for everyone to enjoy ranging from water sport activities to the theatre, café and restaurant culture, as well as having several reputable schools. Torquay is also well connected with the local train station (GWR) nearby and just a short drive from the M5 and Exeter Airport as well as Plymouth ferry port.

Included in the package on offer:
Salary up to £80,000 commensurate with experience.
5.6 weeks holiday.
Life Assurance 4 x Annual Salary.
Contributory Pension Scheme.
